Subsequently a March week that included a freak snowstorm, a windstorm, and pounding rain, nosotros woke upwards to a sunny day in Brussels—a perfect mean solar day to explore the Jeu de Balle marketplace. We walked by jumbles of scarves, old records, antiquarian silverware, vintage postcards, and loads of ashtrays (the bane of any marketplace stall, I assume, because actually, does anyone still purchase ashtrays?) When I saw these two older gentlemen playing backgammon in that rare March sun, I shot a quick photo to capture the repose, effulgence, and intensity of the moment. That was correct earlier one of them stood upward, and shouted what I tin merely assume were obscenities in the not-ofttimes heard Bruxellois dialect. His partner followed suit, and soon a loud volley of words flew back and forth across the lath. Seconds afterwards, they both took their seats and resumed the game as though they had never even moved.

Jeu de Balles cuties

Jeu de Balles is a quintessential flea market set in the eye of the Marolles District of Brussels that runs daily through the forenoon. My favorite time to go is on Lord's day when the square is filled with the virtually vendors who sell anything from bric-a-brac to antique furniture. Since information technology is one of the urban center's most well-known markets, it'southward non always easy to find steals, but y'all can notwithstanding manage to haggle a decent bargain. 1 of my favorite finds was a dealer who specialized in vintage, ceramic figurines full of quirk and character.
